Calico Campout and Rocket Launch
19 November, Calico–Our campout in Calico this past November was great. It was cold but fun. We got to go on a hike through old mines, visit the ghost town on Calico and shoot off rockets. Thanks Mr. Warren (Camp) and Mr. Crisi (Rockets) for organizing this event!

October 2022 Events
The events during the month of October included Troop-o-ree at Prado Regional Park, our annual Pumpkin Patch fund raiser, and a practice backpacking/day-hike on the local Murphy Ranch Trail.
Autumn Camp-o-ree / Troop-o-ree at Prado Regional Park
7-9 October, Prado Regional Park–We had Troop-o-ree this season. Normally we would have Camp-o-ree along with 400+ other scouts from our council. Unfortunately, this year, sign-ups were low so it was cancelled. Troop 985 and three other Troops decided to move forward with a Camp-o-ree of our own so that the scouts could still experience some friendly competition. It was a good weekend to learn new things and hang out with good friends.

Pumpkin Patch Fundraiser
15-31 October–East Whittier. Our annual troop fundraiser was held outside for the last two weeks of October at the East Whittier United Methodist Church. The pumpkins were brought in from the Navajo Nation in New Mexico with proceeds that went to support the Navajo Nation and a percentage of sales raised for Troop 985. Special thanks to Richard Jensen for helping set this up for the troop!

Backpacking / Day-hike, Murphy Ranch Trail
Originally we were going to backpack up at Mt. Lowe for the weekend. The weather was going to be bad this weekend in the mountains so we turned the backpacking trip into a practice day hike with our backpacking to test out our equipment. Thanks Mr. Marucci and Mrs. Dorner for setting this up!
